Meet Matthew Hernandez, 6th Grader
Matthew started the school year on a 5th grade reading level and progressed to a 12TH GRADE LEVEL thanks to his daily work in Reading Plus!!
What is your favorite class & favorite teacher at DSA? My favorite class is History and teacher is Ms. O’Briant. I like going on the field trips with her class.
What do you like from Mrs. Lee Lee’s kitchen? It’s hard to choose, but the lasagna!
What has been your overall impression of DSA? I think I’ve done average in all my classes. Being at an all-boys school is 100% different but I like it.
Any summer plans? Probably going on a trip to Alabama for my birthday in June.

Charity Weekend wouldn't happen without our volunteers. This year we'd like to recognize Clint Dunn and Carty Tillman who have spent so many hours preparing for and working the clay shoot EVERY YEAR! Thank you for loving our school and community!

“The weekend has grown tremendously since the start. When we first started, we had less than ten teams at the sporting clay event. Now we have nearly thirty teams and have had to change locations several times due to growth. Delta Streets provides opportunities and alternatives for people in the community to get a quality education. I think it clearly makes a big impact on many young men’s lives.” -Carty Tillman, Clay Shoot Volunteer

I am always in awe of the support received during the months leading up to and the actual spring fundraiser event! It takes an army of people to organize a weekend like that and our volunteers are so generous with their time. And so many go unrecognized. So I want to say THANK YOU!
And to those who sponsored - THANK YOU! Just from sponsors alone, the financial impact is $70,000. Each sponsor gets hit by all the different organizations in Leflore County and beyond, so to be included in their annual giving is extremely encouraging.
A special thanks to Beulah Land Sporting for hosting our sporting clays event. What a beautiful piece of land that we get to run around on for a day! And to the Greenwood Country Club for hosting 80 golfers on a Friday afternoon.
Last but not least, all 350 people who bought a $100 drawdown ticket for an extremely small chance of winning $5,000! That ticket is not your typical $5 raffle - $100 is $100! So thank you for your generosity.
Our hope at DSA is that the funds raised help us continue to equip the young men who walk through our doors. And one day, they might be one of the 350 individuals buying a $100 ticket to give other young men an opportunity!
