Meet Terral Prayer, 8th Grader
How have you grown academically since last school year? Last year I started off pretty slow and this year I already know the system and how everything works.

What is your hardest subject? Reading. I never liked to read, but since I’ve been at Delta Streets I like to read more because of Mrs. Barth. And Reading Plus helps me understand words and their meanings.

What is your easiest class? Math. I love math.

Describe something you’ve enjoyed learning this year. I’ve had fun in science class. We just did a science experiment – a hypothesis about bread and moisture to see if it gets mold or stays the same.

What is a goal for yourself this school year? To stay focused, show good sportsmanship in football, and improve my teammates.

Meet Coretta Green, Dean of Academics
Describe your role as Dean of Academics & a typical day at DSA. In my capacity as the Dean of Academics, I am responsible for overseeing daily academic matters within the school. I collaborate closely with all teachers to ensure that the institution's academic goals and objectives are achieved and that the students receive a high-quality education. Additionally, I am currently teaching two science classes.

A typical day at Delta Streets involves planning for the science classes I teach, observing teachers as they deliver their lessons, and providing constructive feedback to support their efforts in providing quality education for all students. Additionally, I assist the counselor in preparing students for the ACT and help them plan for their academic future. Every two weeks, I also provide elementary students with information and activities related to maintaining good health that correlate with physical education.

What did you do before DSA and what brought you here? Before my current role at Delta Streets Academy, I worked as the College and Career Counselor at Leflore Legacy Academy, a Public Charter School, for two years. Prior to that, I served as the principal at J. Z. George High School in Carroll County Schools, where I retired in 2022. I was attracted to Delta Streets Academy because of its Christ-centered environment, which is different from the traditional school setting I was used to. I prayed about it and let God guide my decision. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.

Describe a few goals you have set for your position this school year. One of my primary goals in my role at DSA is to consistently work towards ensuring that students are well-prepared for college and careers upon graduating from Delta Streets. Additionally, I aim to support all teachers in effectively preparing students in the classroom and instilling in them the essential character skills needed in society. Furthermore, I aspire to assist as many students as possible in embracing a life committed to Christ.

How do you believe DSA impacts a student's life now and in their future? I am deeply convinced that DSA is doing an exceptional job in fulfilling its mission to provide young men with the teachings of Jesus Christ and the essential life skills necessary to lead a life guided by Godly principles. This includes instilling values of compassion, empathy, and integrity, as well as practical skills that will enable them to navigate life's challenges with wisdom and grace.
