Introducing DSA's two new board members: Stephen Edwards and Paul Fryant. We're thrilled to have their expertise and wisdom in prayerfully preparing for the future of our school!
Meet Stephen Edwards, General Counsel for Garry Makamson Farms
How did you first hear about Delta Streets? I originally heard about Delta Streets from my dad. He knew of the work T. Mac was doing in the Delta before Delta Streets was in existence.
Why did you want to join DSA's board? As a family, we moved to Greenwood from Jackson in May 2021. I felt the need/call to be involved and contribute towards Delta Streets in whatever form I could. The board was in a period of growth and transition with a potential need for my skill set, so it fit. I am excited about furthering DSA's mission in providing a Christ-centered, disciplined education. Without Christ as one's rock, all the academic, athletic, and personal achievement is ultimately in vain.
List any goals as a board member. Most importantly, continue to support the administration to allow them to concentrate on what is most important: establishing and building Christ-centered relationships with students and their families. At the same time, constantly monitoring/modifying a long-term plan to foster long-term accountability from the administration and students.
How is DSA impacting Greenwood and the Kingdom? DSA's short-term impact to the community is obvious. Boys have become young Christian men and become productive members of our community and state. Long term, as DSA ages and the alumni ages, I pray to see God use DSA to spur generational change within Greenwood and the greater Mississippi Delta.
Meet Paul Fryant, Director of Operations at Hartfield Academy
How did you first hear about Delta Streets? I was actually on the initial "steering committee" that helped found Delta Streets and I was also on the original board as well. I have known T. Mac most of my life and I was drawn to Delta Streets by being very impressed with T. Mac’s vision of what the possibilities are if something consistent could be built to pour into the lives of young men in Greenwood. The changes over the years have been crazy! I remember the first time I walked into the old Delta Chevrolet building and to see where it has come and to see plans for what is yet to come is truly amazing.
Why did you want to join DSA's board? I was excited to come back on the board at Delta Streets. The school has come so far over the last several years and I am excited to be back to help do what I can to continue the positive trajectory. My favorite things about DSA's mission and vision are the doubly important emphasis on the Christian faith, as well as providing a rigorous academic program at the same time.
List any goals as a board member. My goal as a board member is to be a resource and a sounding board for the staff and administrators at the school and hopefully to bring a little of the academic and non-profit experience I have gained over the years.
How is DSA impacting Greenwood and the Kingdom? I truly believe that DSA is making a huge impact on Greenwood. I think the new building project will do good things for downtown Greenwood, but more importantly, the education the young men are receiving and the spiritual lessons they are learning will hopefully make lasting impact for generations to come.
