Meet Jonathan Holland, DSA's New Head Basketball Coach!

What is your position at Delta Streets Academy? I am the Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, and math teacher.
How did you hear about DSA and where did you work previously? I was born and raised in Indianola, so heard things about it when it was first beginning. After I applied for the job and talked to T. Mac, I started to ask friends in the area what they knew about the school. I spent the past 4 years coaching football, basketball, and teaching Bible at Northpoint Christian School in Southaven, Mississippi.
Since you've started practicing with the basketball team this summer, what are you most excited about /do you have any goals for this year? I am extremely excited about the team’s focus and drive. The seniors seemed to buy in to the vision that I had for the team early on. I think the younger players have since bought in to that same vision. As far as winning and losing are concerned, we want to win at least half our games, make the District Championship game, and make the State Playoffs. More importantly, we want to become closer to God, closer to each other, and grow as men.
What do you believe sets DSA apart from other schools? DSA’s mission and how they go about accomplishing it is completely unique to DSA. Nobody else is doing what DSA is doing and I truly do believe that God has his hand on this school. I think that T. Mac has a vision of helping kids, and I am excited to be on board and help with that.

Delta Streets Academy wants to say THANK YOU to Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) for their faithful partnership over the years! From providing dual enrollment courses and hosting our home football games to now utilizing last year's school facility while their campus is being renovated. Thank you MDCC for your support of DSA!
“Over the last few years, the Greenwood Campus of MDCC has been able to host and serve classes to the students at DSA as they earn dual credit on our campus in a variety of different subjects. The partnership is a hit because we can challenge them and give them insight into what college classes look like and they can use these credits on their own journeys toward graduation at DSA. The boys have created quite a reputation here known as “T. Mac’s guys” as respectful, hard-working, and kind! I have the pleasure of interacting with them as we get their schedules made and give them a hub to visit if they should need anything and I look forward to hosting them each year! With this new temporary location, it will be so convenient to have the guys just walk over from the new DSA building (which looks amazing!).” -Katie Jones, Counselor at MDCC
“I believe the dual enrollment program at DSA provides an opportunity to experience the academic demands of college-level courses before entering higher education. I had the opportunity of taking college algebra for my junior year and can say it has benefited me tremendously in the classroom. The course challenged me to manage my time effectively, balance my other classes, and make sure I had self-discipline. I hope to be able to take more classes during my senior year and I’m excited that the MDCC campus will be right next door.” -Joseph Zuniga, Rising Senior

On Wednesday, July 5th, Mississippi Delta Community College opened their doors temporarily in the same building we have been using for day-to-day operations the last four years. The transition was extremely smooth with the help of a ton of volunteers! MDCC and DSA have partnered (really just DSA leaning on MDCC) for multiple things: dual enrollment, home football games, home basketball games, and GED testing. We now have the opportunity to help them out while they wait for their new Greenwood location to be renovated. The building was going to sit empty for a year and then fall of 2024, our sixth graders along with the new fifth grade class will move back into the building.
Outside of being able to help MDCC, having their students so close to our campus will only help with recruiting new students because more people will see up close what we do every day. It might be a little brother of an MDCC student or their next-door neighbor who has a sixth grader that will now hear about DSA because of the traffic across the street. And the last benefit, and possibly the most important, our juniors and seniors taking dual enrollment classes will now be able to walk 250ft and be in college classes! No more, "I was late because...." One of the best parts of my job is getting to see God move in ways that I would or could never imagine...and this partnership in our backyard is a prime example. To God be the glory!
