We checked in with 2022 graduate Gabriel Cordova who is working to obtain his associate degree in Applied Sciences to become a certified John Deere Service Technician with Wade Incorporated!
Explain a little about this program: I'm at Northwest Community College in Senatobia to study Agricultural Technology. This is a two-year program with Wade, Inc. and a commitment to work for them for three years after graduation. I will then be certified to work at any John Deere dealership.
What do you find challenging about the program? Like every job, I have days that I struggle, but I learn to calm down and breathe.
What do you miss about Delta Streets? I miss my teachers - Ms. Glass was on me my whole senior year and wanted the best for all of us.
How did DSA prepare you for life after graduation? The standard of our academics. 95-100 is an A, which makes you really want to work for your grades and do your best.
"Upon graduation of this program, students are placed in full-time positions at their sponsored Wade Incorporated location. They begin their careers as Certified Service Technicians, which is a head start in the service area and the pathway for a promising career in the Ag Technical Field...Delta Streets has been such a positive influence on the youth in our community. The school teaches these young men that a path to a successful career can always be found through hard work, determination and most importantly a good attitude, and Gabriel certainly has all these traits." -Wade Litton, CEO of Wade, Inc.

When we speak of education, most people think immediately of academics. At DSA, we hope to have a broader definition that includes character development, emotional intelligence, a Biblical worldview, and the skills to navigate daily life.
We hype up the ACT and use it as a measure of success for our students, but we also measure success by our students graduating to become productive citizens. That might look like immediately going into the workforce or joining the military. It could mean enrolling in higher education. But in any of those choices, we hope the guys can balance a checkbook, show up on time, respect authority figures, be kind to others, have a decent understanding of how the government works, and so on.
Greenwood is extremely fortunate to have as many healthy businesses as we do. DSA graduates have been able to join forces with some of those businesses. Gabby with Wade, Inc. (which you read about above), guys working at Milwaukee Tools, two former students employed at Delta Design Build, Greenwood Housing Authority, America's Catch, KT Builder, Greenwood Country Club, and Barnes Janitorial. It is fun to see the process work full circle - a majority of these businesses support DSA and now our students are their employees!
